In a fast-paced and ever-changing world, HVAC product design must also be fast, accurate and complete from concept to commissioning. The Software in the Loop (SIL) process emerges as critical in enabling seamless collaboration between software developers, lab technicians and field engineers through the use of a unified toolset.

This paper explores application development through STone, CAREL's new software development ecosystem. The powerful features of the new environment make it possible to approach the development of a new thermodynamic machine, from function to commissioning, in a fast, efficient, collaborative manner. Starting with the thermodynamic design of the units and devices in MATLAB, passing through the implementation of the software logic conforming to IEC 61131-3 standards, and ending with the complete virtual simulation of the object, using digital twin technology for machine-plant systems, which anticipates and then facilitates the commissioning of the real machine via the remote debugging functions of the STone GATE app.
This continuous flow of project development, from functional concept to real machine commissioning, enhances the benefits of interdisciplinary teamwork between the various technical departments of an HVAC machine manufacturer.

A practical case study is presented, focusing on the analysis of the development of a heat pump unit, intended for residential use on single-family dwellings, using natural refrigerants and serial devices, with the aim of minimising energy consumption in different climatic conditions and implementing several specific operating algorithms studied and designed in collaboration with some of the university's energy engineering departments.

The integrated approach of the various tools, combined with recursive (CI/CD) and interdisciplinary workflows, is the main solution to the increasingly demanding requirements of the air-conditioning and heating market, in terms of development time, reliability, quality and support throughout the product value chain.
