Chillventa special presentation "AIT Heat Pump Innovation Lounge"
The AIT Austrian Institute of Technology presented exciting developments and research findings in the field of heat pumps.
Special presentation "AIT Heat Pump Innovation Lounge"
In recent years, heat pumps have established themselves as a key technology for the decarbonisation of the building sector and industrial processes. In 2024, experts from the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology presented their latest developments and research findings at Chillventa once again. These included the optimisation of heat pumps, their use in industrial drying processes and their use as a replacement for gas boilers in residential buildings.
The AIT Austrian Institute of Technologyhas been conducting research in the field of heat pumps for over 25 years and has been working intensively on high-temperature heat pumps for around ten years.
Review: Focus of the "AIT Heat Pump Innovation Lounge"
-
Heat pump optimisation
The integration of a heat pump into production processes offers considerable advantages - provided it is optimised. This is where AIT comes in with mathematical optimisation methods that enable technical, ecological and economic boundary conditions to be taken into account simultaneously.
In the special presentation, AIT identify the optimum levels and points for heat pump integration in production processes together with its customers. All relevant criteria - from technical feasibility and environmental aspects to the cost structure - are systematically analysed and harmonised.
Our approach ensures that the heat pump not only works efficiently, but also maximises its potential in production.
-
Industrial use in drying processes
The industrial drying of products in various industries and sectors, such as the agricultural raw materials industry, the food industry, the paper and pulp industry, the chemical industry or brick production, results in high energy costs.
Learn more about the developed concepts and demonstrators of AIT in which newly developed, cost-effective sensors for inline process analysis and high-temperature heat pumps were integrated and optimised in combination with numerical models.
The energy requirement for drying and dehydration can thus be reduced by approx. 60 %. More information can be found hereand of course in the "Heat Pump Innovation Lounge", at the AIT exhibition stand.

Replacing gas boilers in residential buildings
Converting residential and office units to climate-friendly heating systems is perhaps the greatest challenge on the road to climate neutrality. AIT is working with project partners to develop new solutions.
The focus here is on modular and innovative heat pumps with environmentally friendly refrigerants to replace gas boilers in large-volume residential buildings as well as innovative storage solutions and energy distribution systems.
