Speaker of the Chillventa CONGRESS about the topic of heat pumps
default Stage Background

Applications for heat pumps

Here you will learn how versatile and energy-efficient heat pump technology can be used in a variety of environments.

Use in commercial and industrial processes

In trade and industry, heat pumps are essential for achieving climate protection goals because they help to significantly reduce energy consumption and costs as well as greenhouse gas emissions. Industrial heat pumps (IHPs) serve as active waste heat recovery systems that raise the temperature of the waste heat from industrial processes in order to make it reusable. These systems are being used in a variety of applications, including drying, washing, vaporisation and distillation, and offer optimised solutions for the processes of everything from greenhouses and breweries to large-scale district heating grids of up to 100 MW.

Heat pumps in commercial buildings

In non-residential buildings such as office buildings, hospitals, hotels and schools, heat pumps are essential for providing hot water, space heating and cooling. Their ability to heat and cool simultaneously makes them especially efficient and results in significant energy savings.

Heat pumps in multi-family residential buildings

The use of heat pumps in multi-family residential buildings is a proven practice that is seen in a variety of building structures and technological solutions in different countries. These systems represent an effective method of supplying power in urban housing complexes.

Heat pumps for new and existing buildings

In new buildings, heat pumps are the preferred technology and dominate the German market for new detached houses. They outperform traditional gas boilers as an efficient source of heat and hot water. Contrary to the assumption that heat pumps are only suitable for new buildings, they can also be used effectively in existing buildings to support future climate neutrality.

Heat pump water heaters for detached and semi-detached houses

Because they’re so efficient, smaller heat pump water heaters with a 200 to 300 litre storage capacity have secured a permanent place in the market. They’re extremely cost-effective and contribute to reducing power consumption.

Heat pump dryers

Dryers with heat pump technology are extremely popular in Germany and lead the market thanks to their low power consumption. This technology is used not only in homes but also in commercial and industrial environments to save energy and reduce operating costs.
